The Buffalo Seminary

About Sem

Founded in 1851, Buffalo Seminary is a small, selective, independent, college preparatory school for girls.

Throughout its more than 150-year history, Sem has retained its original mission: to provide an exceptional education to young women. The small class sizes, individual attention, core requirements, and extracurricular activities provide an ideal environment to do just that, as well as support students as they strive to achieve their goals — both inside and outside of the classroom.

Although we are the oldest school for girls in Western New York, we continue to look to the future so that we are also the best school for girls. We are continuously evaluating our curriculum and offerings so that we can provide students with the best education possible. An example of that is the significant and broad-reaching growth we have undergone over the last decade, including an improved financial foundation, a vastly refurbished building, and an expansion of the curriculum.
