Dr. Benjamin Joplin
Dr. Ben Joplin has taught English at SEM since 2007, and from 2009-2012, he served as Chair of the English Department. He has been teaching writing for 11 years. At SEM, he is an instructor for junior–year courses in American and British literature, critical thinking, research and AP English. He also teaches senior electives in film studies, Gothic literature and psychoanalysis. In addition to teaching, Ben is the faculty advisor for SEM’s chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and co-advisor for SEM’s Writers' Club and Gay Straight Alliance (GSA).
In 2011 he won the College of Wooster's Excellence in Teaching Award, awarded each year to no more than 12 educators from a national pool. Over the last few years, he has been invited to publish and present papers on genre theory, diary writing, the Gothic and popular culture. Ben earned his BA from the University of Massachusetts in 2001 and his PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) in 2006.
