Ms. Caitlin Cass
“For me teaching is one of the best ways to learn,” explains artist and educator Caitlin Cass. Passionate about teaching, learning and making connections, she credits her classic liberal arts background for inspiring her lifelong interdisciplinary approach. As an undergraduate at St. John’s College in New Mexico, where she earned her BA, she immersed herself in the school’s Great Books program.
She often used art as a way to process what she was studying in her philosophy, history of math and science and comparative literature oriented courses. After leaving St. John's Caitlin earned her Masters of Fine Arts at the University at Buffalo. As a graduate student at UB Caitlin taught Drawing, Two-Dimensional Design and Screen Printing, as well as an introductory drawing courses for non-art-majors. Caitlin is a dedicated artist in and outside the classroom. She actively exhibits her history inspired artwork all over the country with recent shows in Buffalo, Chicago, and Washington DC. Caitlin loves sharing her interdisciplinary approach to art with SEM students, and especially enjoys teaching those students who don't consider themselves artistic.
