Welcoming the Class of 2021
Erin Kelly

The parents and freshmen of the Class of 2021 gathered at SEM on Monday, August 7 for the annual Freshman picnic. More than half the incoming class arrived to begin friendships and further familiarize themselves with the school that is now their own residential freshmen will join the class on August 31. SEM's Red Key student hosts took a day out of summer vacation to facilitate the evening.

Not only to meet each other, parents and students met school administration and athletic department staff and team coaches. Traditionally held at our Larkin Field, this year under the threat of rain, we met at the school. The rain held off, and athletic director Eva Cunningham and assistant athletic director Kacie Mills were able to use the new Magavern-Sutton Courtyard for ice-breaker games.

Last year, 73% of the freshman class joined a team; because of our small size every girl is an important athletic asset! Fall sports preseason begins August 17 with soccer and field hockey. Preseason for crew, cross country, golf and swimming starts August 21. There's a fall athletics meeting for parents of Red-Tailed Hawk team members on August 21 at 7 PM in the chapel.
