Music

SEM hosts two major concerts each year. Our traditional Winter Revel, the day before the holiday break begins in December, and the Joan Kostik Andrews spring concert on an evening in April. SEM's musicians and singers also perform at school events including Grandparents' Day, Open House, and the annual signing of our Social and Academic Honor Code in September. SEM performs in the community: in recent years for the holidays at Roswell Park Hospital and to celebrate Women's History Month at the Erie County Library.

The Semachords, our a capella group, competed at "Acapellapalooza" (fall 2014) with a capella high school and college groups from Western New York and sang at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site for the 2015 holidays. Our musicians and singers are also active individually in regional orchestras, ensembles, and musical theatrical productions. They are advised by faculty member Kyle Hopkins.

Mr. Roland Martin directs SEM's ensemble and glee club. He also directs what might possibly be the only school for hundreds of miles' faculty glee club and band. All entertain parents and students at Winter Revel and the Joan Kostik Andrews spring concert.

SEM boasts a large and talented ensemble, with gifted musicians who routinely win places in the Erie All-County Orchestra (more than 4000 students compete).
