Community Service
Community service is an integral part of life at Sem. Through service to others, students discover their connections to the larger community and to the world beyond the school. Last year, 100% of our students completed all their community service projects. Our girls invest their time and talents in service projects that interest them, and they present new volunteer ideas to the Social Service Board for consideration.
The Social Service Board's "Strive for 5" encourages each student to do at least five projects during the school year. Students have participated in a variety of service projects including work at the Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, Christmas caroling, the Upstate New York Transplant Services blood drive at school, Hats off for Cancer, and parties with children at Vive La Casa.
We instill in our girls that giving back to the community serves them well beyond graduation from Sem. Their involvement here can create a foundation for a career of community involvement. At the end of each year, a list of completed activities is placed in each student's school file, and the number of projects is recorded on the student's grade report.
