Buffalo Seminary High School Student to Compete in the 35th Annual National Shakespeare Competition at Lincoln Center in New York City
April 5, 2018 — Sarah Hamdan '18, student of Susan Drozd from Buffalo Seminary won first place at the Buffalo Branch National Shakespeare Competition on February 24, 2018. Senior Sarah Hamdan will travel to New York City along with 56 other contestants from around the country to participate in the English in Action National Shakespeare Competition at Lincoln Center Theater in New York City on April 23, 2018.

As part of the competition, students perform a monologue and recite a sonnet from Shakespeare. Competitors are judged on their understanding of their selected texts and on their ability to communicate their interpretation to the audience. The competition is judged by local teachers and members of the theater community.
Sarah Hamdan, as the winner of the ESU Buffalo Branch competition, will travel to New York City to represent their local community in the National Shakespeare Competition at the world-renowned Lincoln Center Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater on April 23. On stage, each student will perform before a panel of distinguished judges as well as their fellow contestants. Based on their performances, seven to ten students will advance to a final round. Those finalists, performing their selections along with a cold reading of a monologue, compete for the first place award, which is an all-expenses-paid scholarship to attend the Young Actors' Summer School for two weeks at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
