Any student interested in applying for one of the scholarships listed below must complete her application file (click here for the application checklist) and submit a separate 300-word scholarship essay.
In the essay, the student should outline her interests and achievements through middle school as well as her academic goals for SEM.
It is not necessary to file for financial aid to apply for one of these scholarships.
Note: To be considered for financial aid and merit scholarships in the first round of admissions we recommend your application be completed by December 9, 2020.
Bequeathed to Buffalo Seminary in Headmistress Miss L. Gertrude Angell’s Last Will and Testament to provide a scholarship for a term of four years to honor a strong student who has demonstrated spirit, leadership, and citizenship in her school and community activities.
The SAS Scholarship is awarded to a student who has actively and enthusiastically participated in SAS for at least one summer and would be an asset to her class and the SEM community.
This four-year award given to a student who has demonstrated an aptitude and a passion for the study of math or science.
This award is for a student impassioned by the sciences.
Established in 2016 to encourage eligible students with a passionate interest in the pursuit of an athletic or artistic endeavor outside the general school curriculum.
Established in Sally's memory to fund an exceptional student for four years who otherwise would not be able to attend SEM. As well as remaining in good academic standing, the Munschauer Scholar will be actively engaged in the SEM community beyond the classroom.
This four-year scholarship is given to a student who has demonstrated high academic achievement and a passion for learning throughout her middle school years.
Established in 1973 by the family and friends of Deborah Dann Reed ’72, this award provides a four-year scholarship to a student possessing potential for creative and imaginative work in the field of visual art. Students are required to submit an art portfolio.
Established in 2019 to attract students who demonstrate exceptional ability in music (instrument or vocal) and who will actively enrich our school community using her talents. Students are required to submit an audition video or MP3 that best demonstrates their ability; this does not have to be a professional level recording.
Established in 2016 to provide tuition assistance to a student at Buffalo Seminary who has exhibited personal courage.
Originally established as the Graduates Association of Buffalo Seminary Scholarship Fund, this scholarship currently offers a one-year partial scholarship annually to an incoming or current student who is maternally related to a SEM alumna.

Awarded to an incoming freshman who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in academics and extracurricular activities. This scholarship honors the memory of Sofia Grace Hoover, daughter of Hon. Amy C. Martoche ‘88 and her husband Timothy W. Hoover, Esq., and the memory of Claire E. Martoche ‘91, daughter of Hon. Salvatore R. and Mrs. Mary Dee Martoche. This award supports the recipient’s education and growth while encouraging her to make her own unique contribution to Buffalo Seminary.

SEM will award a $10,000 merit scholarship to an outstanding candidate for our residential program who has been recommended by a graduate, trustee of the school, or SEM family. Residential students live in one of the four historic homes next to the school with a SEM staff member and girls from around the region, the nation, and world. The purpose of this scholarship is to build our SEM community with talented young women who have a connection to the school. Buffalo Seminary participates in the Oishei High School Scholarship program. Each year the John R. Oishei Foundation awards a full four-year scholarship to one incoming freshman student of color at a participating Education Collaborative (EdCo) school. Scholarships are awarded based on consideration of need, merit, and potential for academic success.
