Planned Giving

Planned Giving is one of the best ways to provide a legacy Benefit future generations of SEM students, SEM faculty and the help maintain the quality of the school’s programs and learning environments.

Planning ahead for a future gift allows you to achieve your charitable goals and can help provide a financially secure future for you, your loved ones and Buffalo Seminary.

Some of the reasons people make planned gifts to SEM include:

  • Reducing Taxes on Transfers to Heirs

And of course, Planned Giving lets you establish your legacy, whether you decide to recognize your class, parents, spouse, family, or yourself in making a bequest to SEM.

 

What is The Elm Legacy Society?

SEM established the Elm Legacy Society (formerly the Heritage Society) to recognize and celebrate individuals who have named SEM as a beneficiary in their future giving plans.

Among the types of gifts designated by members of the Elm Legacy Society are bequests, charitable gift annuities and beneficiary gifts of life insurance, retirement funds, property, or tangible assets.

When you make a Planned Gift to Buffalo Seminary, you become a member of The Elm Legacy Society. Please be sure to let us know!

To name SEM as a beneficiary of your retirement plan:

Retirement plans come in many forms: 401(k) or 403(b) plan, Keogh or Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), stock bonus plan, Employee Stock Ownership Plan, a defined benefit or contribution pension plan, profit sharing plan or annuity plan.

Naming or changing your beneficiary(ies) is very easy. You can often do it without lawyers and you are likely to find your fund(s) offer online options to change beneficiary names and the % of the benefit assigned to each.
